As the first Wilton wrestling meet of the season gets closer and closer, Coach Boorn continues to guide the Wilton Wrestlers through their long and challenging journey. Boorn and the Wilton wrestlers all have hopes and goals they want to accomplish this season. As a coach, Boorn hopes for the wrestlers as a squad to be able to qualify for the state tournament, which hasn’t happened for the last 6 years. He also hopes for individuals to improve their skills and reach their goals, developing as both a team and individuals. 

Having a total of 28 wrestlers, Coach Boorn is confident that the team will propel. There are 14 varsity spots that have been filled and there are also 2 female wrestlers. Having three different schedules for the teams has been quite a challenge for Boorn as a coach, however, he feels that it only makes the team stronger. He believes that wrestling takes a lot of patience and commitment, “Have patience and enjoy the grind. Wrestling is not an easy sport but it’s nice to start fresh, meet new opponents, and improve your skills.” 

The first meet is on December 5th at North East Gooselake and it is a dual match between North East Gooselake and North Cedar. While this match is an important meet to start off the season, the team is looking forward to future competition. According to coach Boorn, their biggest competition is West Liberty, Cascade, Camanche, and Tipton all with solid line ups to put up a challenge. “These schools all have a solid line up and great teams that put up a challenge for our wrestlers. However, I’m confident that our Wilton wrestlers will be able to put up a good challenge back and hopefully gain a victory.”
