State Wrestling starts today, Thursday, February 20th, and will continue until the final matches on Saturday, February 22nd, during which all of the wrestlers who qualified will be competing in their matches. The three Wilton wrestlers that qualified for state were all interviewed on what they are feeling about the experience by sophomore, Gavin Schnepper.

In the interviews of the wrestlers, junior wrestler Kael Brisker was asked the question, “What are you looking forward to most at state?” Brisker responded, “Getting to wrestle on the biggest wrestling stage in the country, and getting time to be by ourselves in a hotel room, a big nice hotel room.”

Following this interview was Briggs Hartley, who was asked what his favorite part of this wrestling season was and why. Hartley responded, “Probably just being with the team and going to North Butler and staying in a hotel, that was really fun. And just going hard in the room.” Schnepper then asked the follow-up question, “What challenges have you had to overcome this wrestling season to make it to state?” Hartley responded, “Wrestling tough kids, coming into districts as the number four kid right off the bat, that was pretty tough, and just having to wrestle real hard and go hard in every practice.” Hartley still has his upperclassmen years of wrestling ahead of him to look forward to.

To finish off the interviews is senior wrestler, Coy Baker, who was asked, “How have you prepared for state?” Baker responded, “I’ve just been going hard in the room, and wrestling guys from other schools and yeah.” These three wrestlers will be at the state wrestling meet, starting on Thursday, February 20th, and lasting until Saturday, February 22nd.
