Ringing in the New Year

Last year will be one to go down in history considering the circumstances. When you talk about a rollercoaster of a year, look at 2020 and you won’t need any further explanation. Last year had its ups and downs but it seemed the downs took over most of the time. Entering the year 2021 should be looked at differently, many are trying to find the positives of this year to make up for the bad year we had previously.
Speaking with two students about last year compared to this year they both agreed that last year was barely any good. Lucas Durocher (‘22) claims this year is going to be better because “The COVID vaccine came out and people will start to calm down”. Many are relying on the vaccine as a solution to the virus. Reece Vela (‘21) was straight up and said, “It can’t get that much worse”. This is how so many people have been looking at the new year.
As we look at many hopes and goals people have for this year Lucas said, “I hope the country becomes less divided”. All of the events that have taken place during 2020 have created a huge divide among the country’s spending on politics, feelings, thoughts, and opinions. Coming together as one is what we all hope for. Reece seems to be tired of COVID as is everyone else. He said, “I hope COVID goes away so I can go places without a mask”. This year has many high hopes to only go up from last year.
The boys were asked some questions about their personal goals and resolutions for this new year. As Lucas finishes up his junior year and goes into his senior year he said, “I would like to get better grades in school”. That is a great goal to have, the new year will help him push to better himself academically. Reece is a senior this year and he has one simple goal this year and that is “To have a good start to college”. A great way to start this new year is by setting possible goals!
