COVID-19 Vaccine, Effective or Not?

COVID-19 Vaccine, Effective or Not?

Going into the new year one thing that has not changed is COVID. The vaccine has recently started to get distributed to people in a select amount of states. No one knows how effective the vaccine is going to be since it came out so quickly because people need it now. Two people who had very different takes on the vaccine were interviewed.

Mr. Hewitt had a few thoughts on the vaccine saying, “I think it’s rushed but I don’t think they would put something out there that’s going to harm people but I don’t know if it’s going to be 100% effective.” No one knows how we are going to react to it. Mr. Hewitt adds that if he has the choice to get the vaccine he will because something is better than nothing in his opinion. With the new mutations of COVID starting to show up, his main concern is that the vaccine will not be 100% effective against these.

On the other hand, Kaylee Coss (‘24) said she will not get the vaccine. Her main concern is that possible side effects are unknown and it could potentially do more harm than good. When asked if she would get the vaccine she said, “No because I think that I have a healthy enough immune system and we don’t know the side effects so I don’t wanna risk it.” So far the only side effects of the virus are discomfort or red around where you got the shot or a fever. After 24 hours if this doesn’t go away then visit your doctor. There are some cases with people having allergic reactions to the vaccine and this is something you want to look into before you get the vaccine.
