The 2021 IHSAA state swimming championship was held at Linn-Mar High School in Marion, IA. The event took place February 13, and due to COVID-19 restrictions, spectators were not allowed. Wilton’s Ryan Boeding, (‘21), placed 2nd in the men’s 50 yard freestyle where he received a time of 20.85, and placed 10th in the men’s 100 yard freestyle where he received a time of 47.17. He also swam the 200 yard free relay where their team placed 17th, and the 400 yard relay where they placed 20th. These times are tough to beat and it took Ryan a lot of hard work and dedication to be able to swim the way he does. 

Swimming is a sport where every second matters, one miss stroke and your time could be set back a second. In State swimming, a few seconds is the difference between 1st and 10th. Most people think swimming is easy, but to have a perfect run where there are no mistakes is a tough thing to do. Ryan Boeding gave some insight on how state swimming went for him. “Overall, the meet went well. I had all time drops and ended up moving my paces up or holding my speed. It is unfortunate that I didn’t get the title, but I still dropped time and I’m happy with that. The relays did great, posting two best times and everyone stepped up.” Ryan Boeding did great at the State swim meet and he is happy with how he did.
